Bathroom design across London

London bathrooms are frequently small, oddly shaped or squeezed under eaves, which is where careful layout planning makes the biggest difference.

Any measured survey is arranged directly between you and the designer.

Flats outnumber houses

Flats, maisonettes and apartments made up 55.9% of London’s dwellings in 2021, the only English region where they are the most common type. Bathroom designs therefore often have to work around shared risers, soil stacks and floor structures you do not own. [1]

Listed buildings need consent, inside too

London has about 19,000 list entries for historic buildings. Works that alter a listed building in a way that affects its character need listed building consent, and that includes internal works such as moving a bathroom. [2] [3]

Loft bathrooms and permitted development

Many loft bathrooms come with a loft conversion. Under permitted development a loft can usually add up to 40 cubic metres to a terraced house or 50 cubic metres to a detached or semi-detached one, but these rights do not apply in conservation areas and other designated land. [4]
